A range of bursaries are available for students and early-career researcher to help attend BSRG x TSG 2026. See below for more details.

TSG

TSG Conference Travel Bursaries

The TSG supports students and Early Career Researcher attendance at conferences by providing up to £500 bursary for e.g. conference registration fees, travel, accommodation and subsistence. Up to 4 bursaries are awarded each year.

TSG Master’s Student Bursary

The TSG Master’s Student Bursary aims to support Master’s students (Research, Taught, or MSci/ MGeol) specialising in Structural Geology or a related discipline to attend and present their Master’s research project (as a talk or poster) at the annual TSG meeting. TSG will cover the costs of the conference registration, conference dinner, and fieldtrip (if applicable) for the Bursary winner, and provide up to £400 bursary to cover travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs related to attending the conference.

1 full Master’s student bursary will be awarded each year.

The TSG also offer up to 3 bursaries that cover only the costs of the conference registration, dinner, and fieldtrip of Master’s students attending who can cover their own travel and accommodation expenses (e.g. Master’s students local to the Host institution).

TSG Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Bursary

The TSG Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) bursary aims to provide additional financial assistance, up to £500 per awardee, to support geoscientists with primary caring responsibilities, additional needs, or who are experiencing a career transition, to attend the next TSG annual meeting in person. Up to two awards will be offered each year.

BSRG

The Steve Farrell Memorial Fund

The Steve Farrell Memorial Fund offers financial support to postgraduate students of any age attending field based sedimentology conferences outside the UK. Applications for assistance with sedimentological fieldwork may also be considered.

Awards are in the region of £250 – £300.

The Gill Harwood Memorial Fund

The Gill Harwood Memorial Fund offers financial support to female graduate students of any age and female sedimentologists under the age of 30, of any nationality, who require funds to assist them in carrying out sedimentological fieldwork or for attendance at international meetings.

Awards are in the region of  £250 – £1000

BSRG Early Career Grant

The Early Career Grant offers financial support for postdoctoral researchers and those within 3 years (full time equivalent) of starting a permanent academic position to support sedimentological research (e.g. field or laboratory) or to attend international meetings.

Awards are in the region of  £200 – £1000

Clay Minerals Group (open to both societies)

Clay Minerals Group bursaries

Funding is available to assist researchers and postgraduate students to attend and present research on clay minerals (sensu lato) at conferences, workshops and related activities.  Awards are limited to £500 or 50% of costs (whichever is less) and are paid retrospectively.

There are no restrictions on who can apply and bursary applications can be submitted at any time of year.
